Autism and Knott’s Berry Farm

Autism and Knott’s Berry Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm was the first amusement park he had visited. While waiting in line, there were several meltdowns. I was ready to throw the towel in and leave Knott’s and never come back, ever again. But we stayed and lucky for us, we went during a week day and the lines were pretty short. I tried calming my son by explaining to him that we have to wait our turn. Everyone in line was staring and I even got some eye rolls from parents. I ignored the looks and just focused on keeping my son safe during his meltdown as we waited in line.

This trip to Knott’s was a very good learning experience for my son. We practiced our waiting and patience skills. Maybe if my son didn’t have to wait in line or check in and then come back to a ride, he would of had no meltdowns at all. We would have probably stayed a little longer. I read an article about how Knott’s Berry Farm and other affiliated parks and how they’ve changed their policy’s for people with disabilities.
